Giving policy

For people who give through a Potluck giving page: what happens to your gift, your receipt and your card details, and how to change a recurring gift.
Who you are giving to
When you give through a Potluck giving page, you give to the organization named at the top of the page, not to Potluck. The money goes from your card or wallet to that organization's own bank account through Stripe. Potluck, made by Pay AI, Inc., provides the page and keeps the record. Potluck never holds your money.
Fees
The organization pays a processing fee to Stripe and a platform fee of 0.75% to Potluck on each online gift. Before you give, the page offers to add an amount that covers both, so the organization receives the full amount you chose. It is on by default and you can turn it off. If you cover the fees, the amount you add is part of your gift to the organization and appears on your receipt.
Your receipt
If you give an email address, a receipt arrives within a few minutes. It shows the amount, the fund, the date, whether you covered fees, and the deductible amount where the organization has told us part of a payment is not deductible (an event ticket, for example). The receipt is issued by the organization. Potluck does not decide what is deductible and does not give tax advice.
If you give anonymously, the organization does not see your name. If you give anonymously and provide no email, no receipt can be sent, so keep your own record.
Your card
Card numbers and wallet details go directly from your device to Stripe and never reach Potluck. If you choose to save a card for next time, Stripe keeps it, tied to your email address, and you can ask the organization to remove it at any time.
Recurring gifts
If you make a gift monthly, it is charged on the same day each month to the card you used. Every email we send you about it includes a link to your own giving page, where you can change the amount or fund, pause for up to three months, or stop it, without an account or a password. The link expires after 30 days; request a fresh one from the same page.
If a charge fails, we email you with a link to update your card. We try again after you update it. After three failed attempts the gift pauses and the organization is told, so nobody is charged for a card that no longer works.
Refunds
Refunds are at the organization's discretion. To ask for one, contact the organization directly; its contact details are on your receipt. A refund is returned to the card you used, usually within five to ten business days depending on your bank. A refunded gift is removed from your receipts and your year-end statement.
If you believe a charge was made without your permission, contact the organization first, then your bank.
Your giving history
From the link in any email we send you, you can see your gifts to that organization, download receipts, and, in January, your statement for the year. You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to hello@potluckpayments.com. We may keep records the organization needs for its tax reporting.
